日本や日本以外でも、丸いモノ（a round object）を車にぶつけるテストはあるらしい。記事によれば、これは国連が決めた安全基準の一つ（全部で43項目ある）で、EUの基準に似たものらしい。

ボンネットは凹まないとだめなのだ。丸いモノをぶつけるのは、歩行者と衝突する状況を想定したものである、衝撃を吸収してボンネットが凹んでくれることこそが、致命的な状況において歩行者の安全への配慮があることを示すらしい。
もっとも、普通に考えてアメ車が日本車よりヤワなわけがない。

Some US carmakers admit that this has little to do with non-tariff barriers.じゃぁなぜアメ車が日本で売れない。その理由が上らしい。大統領の発言によれば、日本で走ってる車の94％は日本製とのことだ。記事によれば、日本で売れた乗用車は457万台のうち、米国ブランドのものは1.7万台にとどまる。
One senior advertising executive in Tokyo said that selling American cars to Japan was a challenge because they are "too big, consume too much gas and lack the little design details that the customer here looks for".
上で言っている理由は、「デカすぎ、燃費悪すぎ、デザイン大雑把すぎ」らしく、「非関税障壁とはほとんど関係がない」とのことだ。
